1st CPDLC/PDC Topic Night Germany Participating airports and center-sectors: Frankfurt: PDC in EDDF | CPDLC with EDGG_E_CTR Dusseldorf: PDC in EDDL | CPDLC with EDGG_P_CTR Bremen: PDC in EDDW | CPDLC with EDWW_A_CTR Munich: PDC in EDDM | CPDLC with EDMM_R_CTR It's been more than a year already that the CPDLC Quick Starter Manual has been published. Quite a few pilots and air traffic controllers have tested this technology, but we are still waiting to see a more frequent usage by members. So far experience has shown that CPDLC was received positively by the most of our people who had tested it. With quite a few of them, initial skepticism was replaced by enthusiasm. Requests for specific topic nights have been registered on a regular basis as our ATCOs and pilots really would like to apply PDC and CPDLC in a live environment. This point in time has come now! On Friday, 17 February 2017, we invite all interested pilots to join us for our very first CPDLC Topic Night! Participating Airports We did not save on efforts or money and were able to not only activate EDDF/Frankfurt, but also EDDL/Dusseldorf, EDDW/Bremen and EDDM/Munich. The Topic Night is officially scheduled to start at 1900z/20:00 hours Central European Time. The official finishing time will be 2100z/22:00 hours Central European Time, the earliest. As EDDF/Frankfurt holds its regular onlineday on Friday nights, you can expect active air traffic control at least until 2200z/23:00 hours Central European Time. PDC | Pre-Departure Clearance You will be able to request your IFR-Clearances by means of PDC at the four participating airports (see list on top). The ATCO who is tasked to provide you with this service, either DEL/Delivery or GND/Ground/Apron, will be using CPDLC-programs to receive your PDC-requests, then edit them and reply with your clearances. The address that you will need to insert for the addressee will be the ICAO code of the airport where you request your PDC: EDDF, EDDL, EDDW or EDDM. CPDLC | Controller Pilot Data Link Communication Furthermore, Area Control (CTR/Center) in Langen, Bremen West und Munich will be using CPDLC, enabling you to send and receive requests and instructions through your CPDLC Client Program. It is important that you also check-in on their frequencies by voice/text, stating your callsign and the magic word "CPDLC". e.g.: Langen Radar, good evening, Lufthansa 123A, CPDLC. This will let the controller know that your on his frequency and able to communicate through CPDLC. A small, yet important detail: while you are not supposed to logon to a controller channel when obtaining a PDC. But for enroute control, logging on is essential. The appropriate Logon-Code can always be found in the controller-information. Installation of CPDLC Software If you haven't installed any of those CPDLC-clients, then don't hesitate any further and do it rather sooner than later - and join us on Friday! As a first step you best download the CPDLC Quick Starter Manual. Follow the short instructions to request a Login-Code that is required for the Hoppie-network (will take just seconds), then install one of the CPDLC clients for pilots. Boston - Moncton Crossfire We’re kicking off our new year of events with an international flair featuring a cross-border, cross-fire event with Moncton FIR. Since 1971, the official Boston Christmas Tree has been donated to the people of Boston by the people of Nova Scotia in appreciation for the assistance given in the aftermath of a devastating explosion that destroyed the City of Halifax in 1917. In honor of that tradition, our event will feature Boston’s Logan Airport (KBOS) and Halifax’s Stanfield International Airport (CYHZ). Our preferred routes will follow closely the voyage that the Christmas tree makes each year; through Nova Scotia, across the Bay of Fundy, continuing through Maine and New Hampshire to Boston. Bring Santa Home Once again the Anchorage ARTCC would like to present our annual Bring Santa Home event. This year was a little rough for Santa because there was an unusually high number of kids who fit into the “Nice” category. After a much needed vacation and New-year celebration, he is ready to get back to work at North Pole, which happens to be located just outside Fairbanks. Join us at Fairbanks International Airport (PAFA) on January 1st, 2017 from 2300-0300 Zulu (1400 Alaska, 1800 Eastern).
